Maand or Mand is the most sophisticated style of Rajasthan’s folk music and exclusively contributes to India’s classical music. Though it was only performed in royal courts for praising the Rajput rulers once, it has come a long way since then and has become a popular singing style in Rajasthan. The haunting ballads of Dhola-Maru, Mumal-Mahendra and other legendary heroes and lovers are still sung by the professional singers. Performances like the Maach, Kuchamani Khayal, Rammat, Tamasha, Raasleela, Nautanki etc are highly popular and are often performed by singers like the Jogis and Mirasis of Mewat, Langas and Manganiyars, Dholies, Banjaras, and Kanjars.
